Looking for a home remedy for my elderly Mom who complains of an itchy scalp. I had her try baby shampoo.....?

It didnt seem to do much good. Is this commom in the elderly? Anyone have any suggestions as to what we could try, before I have to take her to the Doc's. She is handicapped so it is very difficult to get her out often and she is not due for her regular physical for a few more months.Looking for a home remedy for my elderly Mom who complains of an itchy scalp. Cradle Cap is a scalp fungus common in the elderly. Neutrogena T-Gel is a shampoo that has a very small trace of tar (it's not sticky) which will kill the fungus. In the future, make sure her hair gets really dry with the hair dryer; fungi really love moisture, and it will come back eventually if the hair takes a long time to air-dry.Looking for a home remedy for my elderly Mom who complains of an itchy scalp. head and shoulders in the blue bottle, my girlfriend had a similar problem and she tried every shampoo you could think of including all the other brands of head and shoulders but the blue bottle is very sensitive and she says smells good to
Try Selsun shampoo which has an antifungal that should help the itching... It is a very common thing in the elderly.
Try some Scalpicin on her for now. She may also want to try a broad spectrum Essential Fatty Acid supplement.

EFA deficiencies are a major cause of dry, flaky, itchy skin.

You can buy scalpicin at Wal Mart or at most drug stores.
Try Head and Shoulders for itchy scalp. You can find it at the drug stores. If that doesn't help call your local pharmacist.
this may sound strange but it works raw eggs wisk it then rub it into the hair then rinse it out it will stop the itching and make it nice and shinny my two sisters do it and they have long hair that they can sit on they say it also makes it strong there is no harm in trying it good luck :)
Try a dandruff shampoo. Winter drys out skin, even on the scalp and this may be cause itching and irritation. Try Head and Shoulders or Denorex. There are even stronger ones. Take a look around at a pharmacy and I'm sure you will find what you need.
It is common, I would try Bumble %26amp; Bumble's Tea Tree shampoo, the tea tree oil acts as a clarifying cleanser and mild antiseptic without drying out the hair or the scalp. It's not inexpensive, and it's generally at higher end salons, not your typical drugstore selection. Worked for me.

Best to you and your mom.
There are actually a couple of things. First, if you are washing the hair every day, don't. Wash the hair every other day. Use a conditioner. Secondly, use a dandrif shampoo. Even if she doesn't have dandriff, it should ease the itchyness. If for any reason you can't/wont do that, there are oatmeal soaps/shampoos that you can get in the grocery store. Oatmeal baths are a natural remedy for itchy skin. Hope this helps.
