Is there really formalehyde in baby shampoo?

i use aveeno because my daughter has exzema. i read where the aveeno creamy wash has it in there but it says nothing about the regular body wash...im just curiousIs there really formalehyde in baby shampoo?
I look at this way...we've been using these products for years and I have never heard of a baby being seriously harmed from it.

But I also tend to think... if there really was fermaldehyde in baby shampoo, do you really think the FDA would allow it on shelves? I don't. Don't let the fear get to you. Stick with a brand you trust and don't worry about it. If it were true, you'd hear it on the TV news, not some article on the net. Seriously. Your baby is safe.Is there really formalehyde in baby shampoo?
Yes, many products including baby washes/shampoos contain a formaldehyde DERIVATIVE as a preservative.

I also find the quality of aveeno has gone down hill in the last few years.

I'm not sure which product you are referring to though? Aveeno Baby Wash %26amp; Shampoo?

Formaldehyde in Nail Hardeners

Nail hardeners that contain formaldehyde may cause an irritation or allergic reaction to those sensitized to this compound. There is also some evidence that certain individuals may become allergic to toluene sulfonamide鈥揻ormaldehyde resin, a common ingredient in nail preparations.

In 1984, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel* reported that available toxicological data and other information were insufficient to conclude that cosmetics containing formaldehyde in excess of 0.2% are safe. However, the CIR was referring to cosmetic products applied to the skin, not nail products. The concentration of formaldehyde needed for nail hardening is higher than 0.2%, but formaldehyde is less likely to cause skin sensitization when shields are used to keep the hardener away from the skin. If you are allergic to formaldehyde, have previously experienced an allergic reaction to nail preparations or for any other reason wish to avoid this ingredient, be sure to read the product ingredient statement on the label to determine if formaldehyde and toluene sulfonamide-formaldehyde resin are present.

Formaldehyde in personal care products

Formaldehyde is a simple compound consisting of hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. It occurs naturally in the air we breathe and is even part of the human metabolism. Plants and animals also produce formaldehyde, and it is released as a byproduct of certain vegetables, such as Brussels sprouts and cabbage, when they are cooked.

Historically, formaldehyde was first used as a biological preservative more than a century ago. Today, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives are ingredients that help to ensure the safety of products by protecting them from harmful contamination by microorganisms during storage and during continued use by consumers. These preservatives have the ability to replace used-up formaldehyde by releasing it in very small amounts over time as needed. The use of formaldehyde-releasing preservatives ensures that the actual level of free formaldehyde in the product remains very low but sufficient enough to prevent or eliminate bacterial growth. Exposures to formaldehyde through personal care products are generally extremely low.

The CIR Expert Panel concluded that formaldehyde in cosmetics and personal care products is safe and should not exceed 0.2 percent (2,000 ppm) when measured as free formaldehyde.

Likewise, the European Union's Cosmetic Directive allows use of formaldehyde in cosmetic and personal care products at a maximum concentration of 0.2 percent or 2,000 ppm (free formaldehyde). The EU Cosmetics Directive may be found at:

http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/cosmetics鈥?/a>

The FDA regulation for formaldehyde may be found at:

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cd鈥?/a>

All of the levels allegedly found in the report are far below this 0.2 percent (or 2,000 ppm) safety threshold.
I have heard this as well and it appears to be true. From www.greenopia.com:

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics recently released some disturbing information about some of America's favorite clean-baby products; 61% of the largest, most popular brands (including Johnson %26amp; Johnson) contained ingredients like 1, 4 dioxane and formaldehyde, which are known carcinogens.

The No More Toxic Tub report states:

';While a single product might not be cause for concern, the reality is that babies may be exposed to several products at bath time, several times a week, in addition to other chemical exposures in the home and environment. Those small exposures add up and may contribute to later-life disease.

Formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane are known carcinogens; formaldehyde can also trigger skin rashes in some children. Unlike many other countries, the U.S. government does not limit formaldehyde, 1,4-dioxane, or most other hazardous substances in personal care products.';

So we put together a list of the least-toxic baby shampoos on the market we could find. All of these are free of 1, 4 dioxane, phthalates, formaldehyde, and the other nasty compounds we look out for.';

Perhaps try out some of the following organic roducts which are said to not contain it:

USDA Certified Organic:

Erbaorganics Organic Baby Shampoo (at least 77% organic)

Organic Blessings Baby Shampoo and Body Wash

Nature's Paradise Baby Shampoo %26amp; Body Wash, Unscented

Burt鈥檚 Bees Baby Shampoo Bar

Dr. Bronner鈥檚 Organic Castile Soap Unscented Baby-Mild

Nature鈥檚 Baby Organics Shampoo %26amp; Body Wash

Angel Baby Shampoo and Body Wash

All Natural:

Oopsy Daisy Rinse Free Shampoo

Dermamed Baby Shampoo
Highly unlikely. Read the LABEL, not email scare stories.
I was just reading about this too. I got an email from babyzone.com with an article about how unsafe some baby products are. I don't know if it is just a ploy to get you to buy the more expensive organic products or it is a true concern? I will be looking into it further, right now we use Huggies shampoo and wash and if I find out that it contains harmful products I will be switching.
I haven't read all the labels, but I have personally found that there are things in J%26amp;J and other popular baby products that I don't want absorbed by my baby's skin: artificial fragrance, parabens, etc. Some of these things are just irritants, and others have been said to possibly cause cancer.

Perhaps this is alarmist, but what if it's not? My mother is a breast cancer survivor, along with approximately one in every eight women today. If you ask these women what caused their cancer, chances are most of them have no idea. Therefore, if we are using things that MAY be toxic and MAY cause problems down the road, and it's easy as pie to eliminate them from our lives, why on God's green earth wouldn't we do it?

That said, I use goat's milk soap on my daughter, and Earth's Best Organic for diaper cream and lotion. There are alternatives out there, they are easy to find, and my daughter is worth it.
There is formaldehyde in baby shampoo and body wash. Here is some information I received from a friend by email.

Is johnson baby shampoo good for adults to regrow hair?

they told me that it could help my scalp cause it does not contain alcoholIs johnson baby shampoo good for adults to regrow hair?
No, go get Nioxin at a salon and use it for 6 months. Then your hair will start to grow back.Is johnson baby shampoo good for adults to regrow hair?
It will not grow hair. It will be gentle on the hair you already have.. but it will NOT grow hair.

If it did.. Rogaine couldn't charge the outlandish fees it does!
As if ';They'; ever knew anything to begin with! There is nothing wrong with using the shampoo at all...it's very gentle but no shampoo will restore hair loss. You may have a medical problem that can be corrected. You can also try Rogaine if it's that bad. Good luck!
I've been using it for years %26amp; my hair is still falling out (I think this is caused by my genes, not by the shampoo)
thats actually wrong....baby shampoo is meant for a baby's scalp, and usually they tend to have oilier scalps which is why baby shampoo has way more detergent than most shampoos, which means it will dry out your scalp and hair.....if you want something to help you with thinning hair try these....
it doesnt regrow hair, but it can actually get rid of your acne.
Who told you? There is too much acid in that shampoo that's why it doesn't burn your eyes it has the same acid content the eyes do and it's really high. You should message your scalp more and get a shampoo that has stuff that make your hair thicker.

Would baby shampoo be good for an itchy tiingly scalp?

i currently using loreal kids shmampoo and my scalp is itchy and tingly and i'm currenly have more hair fall than usual. so would baby shampoo be better than normal shampooWould baby shampoo be good for an itchy tiingly scalp?
your hair is probably itchy and tingly because your scalp is dry. use head and shoulders shampoo.Would baby shampoo be good for an itchy tiingly scalp?
what you should use after you shampoo your hair is scalpicin. work the scalpicin into your scalp and leave on your hair don't rince out. use everytime you shampoo your hair and the itch should leave. when your hair falls out like you describe, sound like you might have some stress issues as well. good luck. hope this helps. i use scalpicin all the time.
You may want to try Selsun Blue Medicated Shampoo every other day for about a week. It may resolve whatever problem you are having, and then you can resume with your regular shampoo %26amp; use Selsun Blue once a week for a wee bit.

Is baby shampoo good to wash your dog with?

hello i have a 2 and half year old female papillon and i need to bath her more then once a month almost like 3 times a month and I was told baby shampoo works great is the true or could anyways suggest anything else thanks so muchIs baby shampoo good to wash your dog with?
Never use human products on a Papillon or any dog for that matter. The pH balance of the shampoo will damage the quality and texture of the coat. Also make sure to use a conditioner on the coat as well.

I usually recommend Vellus or Pet Silk to help retain the silkiness of a Papillon coat.Is baby shampoo good to wash your dog with?
I use it on my Chihuahua and I used it on my rats too. I have not had a problem. I heard it is very gentle, so that's what I use.

I should buy dog shampoo, but I worry about what kind of chemicals are in the dog shampoos.

I just noticed some dog shampoos that are more gentle, there are several kinds, some are for dogs with sensitive skin or dogs that need to be bathed more often.
No use a Dog shampoo....if you wash your Dog too often it will wash all of the natural oils on your Dogs skins.

Groom your Dog daily and if you go out and your Dog gets muddy just wipe it down with a dry towel and groom afterwards.

My Dog has had about 4 baths in his lifetime and he is coming up for 3 and he doesn't smell....in fact my friends ask me if i have bathed him when i haven't.
Well, I don't see why it wouldn't. But my best bet would be to use Dawn Dish soap. If you leave it on for a few minutes, it kills fleas wonderfully.
You should use a shampoo for dogs. Humans and dogs have different skin pH levels and human shampoos can be drying.

For parents who use mixa baby shampoo on their children?

do you find th lid really annoying to open once the bottle is wet? it gets on my nerves everytime why the heck don t they change the the bottle top???For parents who use mixa baby shampoo on their children?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Never heard of this shampoo but would check the bottle and see if there is a number to call, an address or a website where you can complain. Reputable companies like to have input from consumers.
  • skin cream
  • Does baby shampoo really work well?

hey. so someone told me that when you use baby shampoo that your hair is like shinier and stuff ... is this true? if so ... what does it do to your hair?Does baby shampoo really work well?
Baby shampoo is very gentile, so it works well for those with sensitive scalps and it doesn't do much to strip your hair of oil and moisture which is good... but is is forumlated for babies, who use no product in their hair and don't color their hair. If you color treat your hair, use hot tools like a drier or iron, or if you use products that can build up like gel or spray then you should use something designed to handle these conditions.Does baby shampoo really work well?
The doc. told me to use baby shampoo when I said i'm losing slighlty more hair than usual. Seems to be okay. I'm getting my hair coloured soon so I don't know what I'm going to do! I guess the only thing I can do is stop using my straightners even more and use baby shampoo every other wash or something!
    totallyyy..

it makes your head soft %26amp; your hair is smoother... usually for the sensitive headed ones.... It depends what brand it is to make it shiny or not...
only if ur hair is virgin, (never dyed permed)
Baby Shampoo is very alkaline and can be more damaging that other shampoos. The PH level for baby shampoo is 13, I think, the same as in a babies eyes that's why it doesn't sting. If you have any thing like perm or color on your hair I would suggest using something else.
baby shampoo has a higher PH so it doesnt harm baby eyes. You hair needs a lower PH then baby shampoo has. Over time it will dry your hair out and can lead to damage. If you have color treated hair it can cause it to fade off color.

With the higher PH it opens the cuticle (which is what holds your color in) which will cause it to look damaged over time.
im heard so i use it sometines!! try it!!
