Is it true that Baby Shampoo kills fleas?

I read in an answer that Baby Shampoo will kiss fleas in cats just as well as any other special flea shampoo... is that true?


I would prefer to use it, as it is milder on the hands..

any shampoo will kill the fleas on the animal if it's left on long enough (at least 10 minutes) before rinsing... the cat's bed and everything else will still have to be treated with a flea spray, otherwise the fleas will just go back on the cat... i recommend adam's flea/tick spray for cats... it's a bit pricier than other treatments, but it's worth it since it really works...Is it true that Baby Shampoo kills fleas?
It doesn't, use frontline intead... then no bath needed
The fleas drown in the water so the type of shampoo is not important. Maybe the ';flea'; shampoo has chemicals that kill fleas. The topical treatments (Advantage, Frontline) have proved safe for at least ten years now. Many cats have been poisoned with over-the-counter Hartz products - shampoos, sprays, etc.





So I would always use what the vets have found to be safe.
i dont know if baby shampoo works but skin so soft does ive done it but to the woman who said use dog flea shampoo dont! i knew someone who did that and thier cat died i wouldnt risk it
I've heard that some people have tried it for fleas but it does not work. Use a little Dawn dishsoap; however, be careful and not use too much because it can dry the cat's skin out severly and cause irritation. It really is better to use Frontline or Revolution as a monthly treatment instead of bathing the cat.


Also, make sure you vaccum your carpet and wash all of your and the cat's bedding because fleas love to stay in these places.

It doesn't. Any shampoo - including flea shampoo - will wash most of the fleas off an animal, but this is really no good. You need to use a preventative treatment or the animal will get reinfested upon drying off.





Go to a vets and get some Frontline, it's a spot-on. Then no bath needed and you don't have to put yourself or your cat through the hassle. Frontline will keep fleas off your cat for about a month, but if you don't spray your house too you may still see fleas.

no i don't think that will work. but my sister had a cat and it had flees so my mom bathed it with dog flee stuff and that worked like really fast i definitely suggest that!
DON'T USE DOG FLEA PRODUCTS. Cats do much more licking than dogs and can ingest the dangerous ingredients.





When kittens are too little for flea products, we use Lemon Joy in a bath. However, since cats despise water, we move on to flea drops (one that kills fleas AND their eggs) as soon as they are old enough.





Using water with no soap would work somewhat, but the soap coats the fleas to ';smother'; them.
