Is johnson baby shampoo good to bathe dogs in??

ive always bathed my dogs with jonsons baby shampoo cause its gentle and smells lovely, but really we should be bathing our dogs with dog shampoo made specifically for them.

The way i see it is that my dog is bathed very very very rarely-only when she really needs it. The occasional bath with jonson's shampoo (that is so gentle you can get it in your eyes without doing damage, and is designed for babies) isnt gonna hurt so long as you wash it out thoroughly.

Everyone- even my vet has said my dog has one of the best coats he's ever seen. I asked him about using johnsons baby shampoo and he said although it is better to use specially designed dog shampoo, using jonsons baby shampoo wont damage her coat so long as its washed out properly. so there ya are.Is johnson baby shampoo good to bathe dogs in??
When we first got our pit puppy, we had to use Johnson %26amp; Johnson Baby shampoo, the tear-less kind. Puppy shampoo was too harsh for his dry skin.

Now that he's a little older, we use a gentle puppy shampoo with conditioner that we got from PetSmart. It's the same price as the baby shampoo, but gets his skin cleaner.

The baby shampoo is good for young puppies [[younger than 5 months, older than 10 weeks of course]] that have dry skin or skin conditions. Once they are older though, they make special shampoos for dogs that have dry skin, or difficult coats. Is johnson baby shampoo good to bathe dogs in??
This question makes for a really good debate. As you can see from other answers it's about 50 - 50 yes or no. Some groomers will actually use baby shampoo to groom dogs. YES it can cause problems for dogs skin, NO it will not affect every single dog.

Most vets and groomers reccomend using a dog shampoo. DO NOT always use flea and tick shampoos as this will cause your dog to have really dry irritated skin. What is most reccomended for dogs is an OATMEAL based shampoo. Like with humans, oatmeal will help clear up any skin issues. However HUMAN oatmeal soap is not interchangeable with CANINE oatmeal soap.

Baby shampoo can be used on occasion without hurting the dog (i.e. you're completely out of dog shampoo and he/she needs an immeadiate bath). However, dog shampoo is always best to keep any skin issues and dandar issues at bay. If you go to a Pet store they usually have some really good shampoo at a really good price. The shampoo i buy for my dog was $8 for a large bottle, and that has lasted him (an American Bully) for about a year.

Another thing, bathing your dog too often can also cause skin issues regardless of what soap you use.
NO. Baby shampoo is formulated for humans. A dog's skin is different and they will end up with itchy, flaky skin. Use shampoo formulated for dogs that has a minimum of chemicals in it.

Add: Baby shampoo maybe tear free but it still hurts if it is gotten in the eyes. Try it sometime. As for Hartz products...Hartz products kill many animals because they are cheap, you get what you pay for. As for 'flea shampoo'. Regular shampoo and water will kill them just as well. Fleas cannot swim so if you are smart and fill the tub before putting the dog in, there is no where for them to go but down the drain.
NO TOO HARSH (per my vet). Use a shampoo for dogs, ask your vet. A horse shampoo is also OK, (feed and grain stores-if any are in your area) Horses have very sensitive skin and so their shampoo is gentle%26gt; Most people shampoos are not PH neutral.

My guy has sensitive skin and I have to buy a special shampoo for extra sensitive skin.
Should be fine. Really depends on your dogs skin reaction to it. I've used human shampoo for years on different dogs with no problems.

Just test it and see what happens.

Right now I use Dawn dishsoap when I bathe my dog. It is strong enough to cut through all of the crap he brings home. I don't bathe him very often, maybe every couple of months. He is a hunting dog, and loves to roll in dead things. The dog shampoos aren't strong enough to cut the smell when he does that.
No...a dog's ph is different than a human even if it is baby shampoo. There are a lot of inexpensive dog shampoos on the market. If you are bathing to just get a smell out, just about all of the grocery store items are fine. If you are looking to ';cure'; something special, i.e. dry skin, itching, than you may want to go to a local pet store. Good Luck!
You really should get a shampoo for dogs, since their coat is so different from human hair. I use baby shampoo to clean my dog's face when she gets dirty on her snout or ';forehead';, but never for the body. Of course, if you need to use it just once, it should be fine.
No it can actually dry out their skin. It is good because it can get in their eyes and will not do harm but I would just go to the pet store and buy dog shampoo. It isn't expensive. Plus dog shampoo makes their coat looks so much nicer.

DOG shampoo is for DOGS

BABY shampoo is for BABIES
I think the best is shampoo that has oatmeal in it. It helps the skin. However, this shampoo is okay. You might want to condition w/ something that is for puppy but, the shampoo should be okay. If you notice flacking skin then switch to something puppy.
Every once in a while it's fine, the unscented baby shampoo, but generally, you need shampoo formulated for dog. Especially now that we have flea and tick season, you really want to use flea and tick shampoo to help ward them off.
ya, its fantastic!! no joke, i use it on my poodle, my chiawawa, and my dashund.

its tear free, so there is no crying, or whinping with my dogs, and it makes trhem smell like clean bathrooms, with a twist of lime.
I use Pantene Pro-V for the dogs, if anything. I love it too!

Great for poodles. I have Rottweilers.

Some people will say no, but odds are, if you go to a dog show, a lot of handlers will use Pro-V.

I would recommend it to anyone.!!
NO!!!! they can develop skin allergies (learned the hard way) it may be tear free but not for pets we have perfumes in our items (containing alcohol) which will give them very dry skin they make tear free pet soaps as well. target sell this stuff called just add water a full line and it smells and works great!
It is not a good shampoo for dogs. It is too alkaline and can harm a dog's skin.

Get a shampoo especially formulated for a dog's coat.
Do you have something against dog shampoo that you don't want to use that?

Dog shampoo is the best for dogs.

Baby shampoo is best for babies.
i have heard that it can be good for dogs with sensitive skin dry skin, and it can make there coats feel nice...but like most shampoos a lot of use and it could give the dog dry skin too...sooo yeah
No. Don't use shampoo etc for humans on dogs.

Try dog shampoo, bread soda (Rub it in and brush it out, it cleans and deodorizes) or dry shampoo.
Better to use Hartz Mountain dog shampoo because it is just as gentle and it contains a mild pyrethrens which kill fleas and will discourage ticks.

Doesn't cost much and is at any grocery store.
you need to get DOG shampoo... dog shampoo does not contain soap. this is why it is made for your dogs. other shampoo will dry out their skin and cause them to flake.
dude, i use head and shoulders on my dog. i just take him in the shower with me, it makes it much easier to wash him
as long as they don't get a rash. you should test some on their leg first and see what happens. Your dogs skin could get irritated if not tested.
Yes especially if they are puppies!
Not shure, but I guess the tear-free thing is good. Still I would buy dog shampoo instead.
yes actually it's very good because it's tear free and bathing a dog is messy. So yes
yes, i am at age 30 and use it all the time. it s very good.
I think so , I used it with my pup cause she was sqwermy and I didn't soap in here eyes
no! it's not a dog shampoo! they have different skin types then us! it will most likely get really dry!
yea, they will smell very good afterwards! =)
i'm not too sure about johnson baby shampoo, but i've learned that joy dishwashing soap works well. good lather, and smells good also.
