Does putting orange juice on a dog's body and then washing him with baby shampoo work t get rid of fleas?

One of my friend's mothers just bought a dog and heard that putting a quart of orange juice on him will work to get rid of the fleas.....is this true??Does putting orange juice on a dog's body and then washing him with baby shampoo work t get rid of fleas?
No, it doesn't work. They may think that the citric acid should control or kill them. But, I am sure that it doesn't work.Does putting orange juice on a dog's body and then washing him with baby shampoo work t get rid of fleas?
It won't do anything other than make a good quart of OJ go down the drain, sorry.

There are flea baths you can give, and ones you can get from the vet. Dawn dish soap can work, also, but you HAVE to rinse it off very good or the dog will have soap residu on his skin which can cause a skin breakout. It only works on the fleas currently on the dog, not the ones in the environment who can jump rright back on.
Lemons or even oranges make a great natural flea spray. Take a lemon cut it into thin slices and place in a pint jug or jar, cover with boiling water and let steep overnight.

The next day pour into a spray bottle, spray over your dog remembering especially behind the ears and around the head generally, around the base of the tail and under your dog鈥檚 鈥榓rmpits鈥?

Step 2A flea collar can be made by rubbing a few drops of one of the following into an ordinary webbing or rope collar or even a doggy bandanna: eucalyptus oil, Tea Tree Oil, citronella, lavender or geranium. This should be done weekly.

Step 3If your dog or dogs stay in the home with you then you know you have fleas there as well. Wash your dog鈥檚 bedding regularly with the hot cycle of your washing machine, adding eucalyptus oil to the rinse cycle will also get rid of house dust mites, this is according to research from the University of Sydney, Australia.

Adding a thin layer of salt to your carpet and leaving it on for a couple of days before vacuuming will hopefully kill the fleas and eggs there. The way this works is it basically desiccate them!

Step 4If your dog is badly infested then you have to bath him. Use a little Dawn Dish detergent and shampoo (leave on for five minutes) then rinse. Add a couple of drops of Tea Tree Oil or Lavender oil to your rinse water. An alternative is to make your own herbal flea dip which will also work on ticks. Steep two cups of fresh rosemary in two pints of boiling water for 30 minutes. Strain the liquid, discard the leaves and make it up to one gallon ( 8 pints) with warm water. Pour this mixture over the dog until it鈥檚 saturated. Do not rinse off and allow the dog to dry naturally.

Step 5An internal flea repellant I have read is having them eat garlic, now I've also read if you feed to much to them it can make them sick to their stomach, so use sparingly. When your dog eats garlic, the smell is excreted through the dog鈥檚 skin making your dog less likely to be the flea鈥檚 next meal.

Brewer鈥?s yeast tablets will also help to make your dog less attractive to fleas because once again the smell is excreted through the skin.

Adding a dessertspoon of apple cider vinegar to the water bowl will make the skin more acidic and unpleasant to fleas and ticks. If your dogs don鈥檛 fancy apple cider vinegar in the water bowl, dilute it 50/50 with water and use in a spray bottle instead of the citrus repellent

Step 6I also read that if you take a light colored bowl or pie pan and fill with water adding a few drops of liquid soap and place under a nightlight on the floor that the fleas will come to the light and drown in the water because the soap makes them heavy and they can't jump out. Haven't tried this one yet but I am planning on trying it.
Fleas will die in just about any soap. Better to use something gentle like tear free baby shampoo.

Fleas will run and hide anywhere, so start where there are any openings: eyes, ears, nose, behind, etc. Then work your way thoroughly and meticulously. Rinse, repeat.

You will also need to treat beddings, floors, etc. Food grade DE works great for killing fleas! Take everyone outside, sprinkle it all over the place (wear a mask!) and then brush it into floors. Let it sit for a good hour and then VACUUM very, very thoroughly!!

You will need to repeat these steps throughout a life cycle: every 2 weeks for a good 6-8 weeks.

Good luck.
I wouldn't waste the OJ...but use something that you know works. I use Dogosuds Peppermint/Tea Tree shampoo and it works great. It is loaded with essential oils that are natural flea deterrents so even after the bath, the fleas don't like the way the dog smells but you will LOVE the way he smells! And, it kills the fleas too!
Try a flea dip, like Hartz. Just fill up the sink or tub, and the dip to the water and place the dog in it. Then pour a bit over it's head and back. This works everytime and is probably cheaper then a quart of orange juice!
Hmmmmmm.....I am going to say try putting a flea in a glass of OJ.

If the flea dies, then I suppose it would work. But why would you use up perfectly good OJ when you can buy flea shampoo?
nope not at all

you need a pyrethrin based flea shampoo and a good product like Advocate, Frontline etc to do the job :)
No.
