My Beagle Lilly hates her bath how often should she be bathed and can I use Johnsons baby shampoo on her?

I bought a milk bath and paid alot for it to read that it cannot be used near her eyes..so can i use a tearless baby shampoo on her instead? How often should she have a bath?My Beagle Lilly hates her bath how often should she be bathed and can I use Johnsons baby shampoo on her?
My Dachsund also named Lilly also hates baths! She gets bathed once every two weeks. Human shampoos, even baby shampoos are not for dogs because they usually contain fragrances that are not good and also they dont have enough lanolin which dogs need for a healthy coat. They do make tearless dog shampoos, ask your local vet for recommendations.

Keep in mind if you live in an area with heavy flea or tick infestations then that has to be considered.

Also if you live in an area that has winter seasons then you may consider having your dog groomed. Its not that exspensive.

Remember a pet is a member of your family and deserves the best care you can give it, just as you would for yourself or or children! My Beagle Lilly hates her bath how often should she be bathed and can I use Johnsons baby shampoo on her?
Thank you for the bonus points!

Well I love beagles too, our Lilly we call her ';silly Lilly'; cause she's just so silly in her play! She is a fierce fighter and would protect me unto death!!! The only women she will let anywhere near me are my wife and the two maids. Report Abuse

Baby shampoo is usually alright %26amp; here is a site that explains about dog batheing http://www.canadasguidetodogs.com/groomi…
My dogs hates it too, but I reward her with treats.
first before bathing... will the dog sit/lay down and let you pet her everywhere?? from the eyes, nose, ears, belly, between the toes,, backside, butt, to the tip of the tail...

once your dog is relaxed with being touched everywhere, on dry land mind you... then bathing should be easier...

as for the baby shampoo, yes it is an option... but really you can just rinse the face area with clear water... and wipe dry...dont get water in ears..

also,, some dogs will freak at the running water... so for beginning baths have the tub filled before dog gets in there...

have a LOT of treats,, good ones,,, and just keep giving them during the bath... but only if she sits, and stays like you tell her to... if she is jumping, and crazy do not give the treat.....

my dog likes toys in the bath... silly i know,,, but she likes to chew on stuff, so she gets a rubber ducky to keep her distracted while i wash the stinky butt.....lol.....
My dogs get a bath every 4 weeks. I use baby shampoo with the okay of my vet, i suggest you call yours just to get an okay. We dont know if your pet has a skin condition, or the type of flea treatment you use, so to make sure just a quick phone call can save you lots of headaches. As far as the in bath process, a rubber ducky can do wonders, especially with an energetic dog. Also small treats and a lot of loving words. Make sure that your pup is comfortable with you touching her everywhere you are going to be washing her. While shes dry.

Another thing that for all my animals (yes my cats get baths too, every 8 weeks, one for health reasons, one because she rolls in dirt on the patio). anyways for all the animals seeing the process really helps, they see me run the water they know its coming so they have their fit, and then realize it will be okay just like last time, they see me grab all the supplies. While in the bath they get to see when im about to put on the shampoo. Everything i do, they have an oprotunity to see.
Dogs do not need bath very often. Once a month if necessary. They should be brushed and nails done but that's about it.

Bathing to often stripps the dogs skin of all the natural oil that the dog needs for a shinny coat and for the skin to be healthy.

I can see a bath more often if your dog rolls into muck or gets sprayed by a skunk then it's necessary but if not than once a month it more than enough.
Baby shampoo is usually good but if she is on flea prevention like advantage, you need to check with the vet to make sure baby shampoo won't wash it off. How often she needs to be bathed depends on how dirty she gets. Usually no more than once a week as bathing too often could dry out her skin. If she is inside most of the time and doesn't get dirty, you could just bathe her once a month before you give her flea prevention.
Bathe her only if she is dirty or smelly. Human shampoo is NOT good for dogs
dogs don't need baths,thy don't sweat
